Assistant Planner
West Coast Entitlement is a small, family-owned land development firm that specializes in taking vacant or underutilized pieces of land through the City or County development process to bring a project to construction. We are a private, for-hire company that coordinates with the community, city staff, and public officials to ensure a successful project. Our office consists of a small, 6-person staff and is looking to add an Assistant Planner to assist senior staff in processing, coordination, and representation of various land development projects.
Qualified candidates will possess:
Valid Driver’s License and ability to commute to and from work.
1+ year of experience.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in Adobe: Illustrator, Acrobat DC, Photoshop, and InDesign.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suites: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Experience with AutoCAD
Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve practical problems
Ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations
Ability to create graphic designs, development strategies, and render site plans via sketches and/or computer graphics highly desirable.
Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously
Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed
Ability to attend to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to facilitate in-person and virtual public participation activities
On a continuous basis sit at a desk for long periods of time, twist and reach for office supplies, and occasionally lift items of moderate weight.
Salary and Benefits
Hourly rate and benefits to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
Typical Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Evaluates or assists in the evaluation of rezonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances, and other proposals.
Collects a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, tax base data, and occupancy rates
Prepares and presents detailed reports on development proposals to government bodies
Coordinates community review of public and private development projects
Assists in resolving citizen and customer issues
Oversees the work of various consultants and interns
Conducts field evaluations and assessments
Attends occasional evening meetings
